“Not All Horses Run at the Same Speed”

This weeks blog is inspired by the Chinese Year Of The Horse
When I think of a horse, I picture the striking beauty of Black Beauty, powerful, elegant and commanding.
Then I look at my two stocky Shetland ponies, small, stubborn, adorable and built like little tanks.
Same family, different build but with a very different pace, if you've ever tried to walk a Shetland pony, movement and drive are not really forthcoming!
And that’s the point.
The Year of the Horse represents energy — but energy doesn’t always look the same.
Sometimes we can be galloping, sometimes its a steady-plod and sometimes its simply about not giving up.
Self-improvement isn’t about sprinting, it’s about choosing one direction and committing to it long enough to see change.
You don’t need to be the glossy thoroughbred charging across a field, you might be the sturdy Shetland this year — building strength, carrying weight, quietly consistent and sticking to your boundaries.
And if I’m honest — I can be a galloping horse.

Full of ideas, full of energy, charging into projects, trying to do it all at once which can look impressive, until it isn’t, because galloping is exhilarating…but you can’t gallop forever.
So this year, I’m choosing Shetland energy!
Controlled. Grounded. Consistent.

A Shetland doesn’t waste energy trying to be a racehorse, it knows its build, it knows its strength, it moves steadily and carries weight without drama.
I’ll aim for the steadiness of a Shetland this year… and perhaps leave behind the occasional stubborn streak!
“So are you galloping… or are you strengthening your stance like the Shetland?
